Ok guys…here is what I found on gnomes. The first historical
documentation about decorative garden gnomes dates all the way back to a
hunchback garden gnome named Gobbi in the year 1616. Yes that’s right. They
have been around for four hundred freaking years. They are placed outside
to protect gardens and crops or placed up in the rafters of barns to
protect drying crops. Burying shouldn’t hurt their magic because according
to folklore, gnomes live underground and only come out at night time.
During the day they travel through the earth much like moles do. Anytime
one is caught in the sunlight it turns to stone until the next night which
explains the appearance of the gnome only in statue form in the garden
during the day. But beware…there is an organization called the Gnome
Liberation Front which is active world wide. They believe that keeping
gnomes for your garden’s protection is forcing them to work for your
benefit. They steal gnomes “rescuing them from their slavery” and place
them in secret gnome sanctuaries deep in the woods where they may live
their lives in peace. One sanctuary was recently discovered outside Paris,
France with several hundred gnomes living together peacefully in seclusion
in the woods.The chapter of the GLF active in America is based in
Corvallis, Oregon!! So watch your gnomes!
