PPFD & Lighting for Autoflowers

Description

Lighting wasn’t just about turning it on, in this clip, I showed how I dialed in PPFD, DLI, and environment for healthy autoflower growth.

I measured light intensity, adjusted height and dimming, and explained why gradual changes made a big difference in plant performance.

What’s happening here:
Measured PPFD to check light intensity at canopy level
Started around ~380 PPFD and planned to increase gradually
Adjusted light height to reach ~500–600 PPFD range
Avoided rapid changes to prevent plant stress
Monitored leaf temp vs room temp for accurate VPD

Key concepts:
20-hour light cycle increased DLI compared to 12/12
Short dark period supported plant recovery and soil biology
Plants grew into the light for a more natural progression
Gradual ramp-up helped maximize growth without shock

Approach:
Lowered and dimmed lights step-by-step over time
Focused on consistency instead of aggressive adjustments
Used environment + lighting together for better results

Dialing in PPFD isn’t about max power; it’s about timing, balance, and steady progression.
