Episode 11: Week 11 Update, BluMat Installation, Rooted Clones & Preparing the 2×4 for Flower
In this episode, Season 3 of the 2×4 Grow Tent series continues with a full Week 11 update focused on rooted clone preservation, BluMat irrigation installation, environmental management, and preparing the living soil system for the upcoming transition into flower.
I begin by checking on the rooted cuttings taken from previous selections, making sure important genetics are preserved before moving deeper into the flowering cycle. Several clones have successfully rooted and are transplanted into fresh soil, providing backup plants while demonstrating how simple cloning can be when healthy mother plants, proper humidity, and good environmental conditions are maintained.
From there, I walk through the complete BluMat setup process, including sensor preparation, pre-soaking procedures, calibration basics, and an overview of how gravity-fed automatic watering systems function in living soil. I explain the purpose of ceramic sensors, vacuum pressure, moisture regulation, and why BluMats remain one of my favorite tools for maintaining consistent soil moisture with minimal intervention.
The episode continues with reservoir setup, moisture meter placement, and a detailed explanation of millibar readings and soil moisture management. Along the way, I cover common setup mistakes, troubleshooting tips, and practical lessons learned from years of using these systems in both small tents and larger garden beds.
Next, I install the complete irrigation system, including drip rings, supply lines, sensor placement, line purging, and final calibration. This section provides a step-by-step walkthrough for growers looking to automate watering while still maintaining the moisture levels required for thriving living soil biology.
As the week progresses, I return to evaluate plant growth after transplanting into the final containers. We review reservoir performance, moisture readings, root development, and overall plant health while discussing the timing of flower transition and canopy management strategies.
Finally, I install trellis netting, refill the humidifier, and begin early plant training to prepare for future stretch. We discuss canopy shaping, branch positioning, support structures, and how small adjustments made during late veg can make a significant difference once flowering begins.
