Episode 02: Seedling Update, Germination Results & Transplanting into Living Soil

In this episode, we continue Season 3 of the 2×4 Grow Tent series by checking in on our seedlings about 10 days after germination. This is a critical stage where early plant health, vigor, and genetics start to reveal themselves.

I walk through the actual germination results from the seeds we popped, including what happens when working with older seed packs. Not every seed makes it, and this episode shows the reality of low germination rates, slow starters, and why proper seed storage matters more than most growers think.

We also take a close look at weak and struggling seedlings, breaking down what causes slow growth, stalled development, and early plant issues. This is especially helpful for beginners trying to understand what’s normal vs. what’s a problem during the first couple weeks.

From there, I demonstrate how to properly transplant seedlings into solo cups using BuildASoil Light mix. We go step-by-step through soil preparation, including moisture control using the squeeze test, avoiding dry pockets in peat-based soils, and dialing in the ideal environment for young plants.

I also show how to incorporate microbial inoculants like Rootwise during transplant to support early root development and improve overall plant health. Getting this stage right sets the foundation for stronger growth as we move into the vegetative phase.

This episode is all about learning how to read your plants early, avoid common beginner mistakes, and build confidence as you move from germination into transplanting and early veg.
