Episode 03: Seedling Progress, Humidity Issues & Dialing in the Grow Environment

In this episode, we continue Season 3 of the 2×4 Grow Tent series by checking in on our seedlings during the early vegetative stage and addressing some real-world challenges that come with older seeds and environmental shifts.

We start with a full seedling progress update, including germination results, slow growth, and uneven development. You’ll see firsthand how older seeds can lead to runts, delayed growth, and inconsistent plant structure, and why patience (and proper timing) matters before transplanting.

From there, I break down a common beginner mistake: removing humidity too quickly. This episode shows what humidity burn and wind stress look like on young plants, how it happens, and what to do to correct it before it becomes a bigger issue.

We then move into setting up a humidifier with an auto top-off system to stabilize the environment. I walk through how the system works, why I prefer gravity-fed setups, and how to safely “train” the auto top-off to prevent overfilling or potential leaks.

Next, we dial in the grow environment using VPD (Vapor Pressure Deficit), lighting schedules, and proper PPFD ranges for seedlings. I show how to adjust your light intensity, set your timer, and use environmental controls to create a stable, repeatable setup for healthy growth.

Finally, we connect the controller, fine-tune humidity based on VPD targets, and make small adjustments like propping up weak seedlings and optimizing light height to bring everything into the ideal range.

This episode is all about learning how to read your environment, fix early-stage mistakes, and create a stable foundation that supports healthy plant development moving forward.
