Episode 21: Day 57 Flower, Bud Rot & Humidity Management

In this episode of the BuildASoil 10×10 Series, Season 9 Episode 21, the garden reaches Day 57 of flower as several of the Blueberry Muffins approach the end of their flowering cycle and the rest of the genetics continue developing.

I start with a full garden update and take a closer look at the Blueberry Muffins as they begin to fade and show different finishing times, flower structures, and expressions. With clones still on deck, I’m watching each plant closely as I work toward choosing my favorite Blueberry Muffins keeper.

The main issue in this episode is bud rot. After unusually warm and humid conditions pushed the grow room humidity higher than I wanted, I discovered an early sign of bud rot on the Mountain Dew. Its extremely dense flower structure, combined with elevated humidity and limited airflow, created the conditions for a problem that can quickly spread if it isn’t caught early.

I show exactly what I found, explain why late-flower humidity and airflow become so important as flowers get larger and denser, and discuss some of the environmental changes I’m making to protect the rest of the garden. This is also a good reminder of why consistently checking your plants matters, even in a mostly automated living soil grow.

From there, I tour the rest of the garden, including the Blueberry Muffins and Gonzo Grape, while comparing flower structure, aromas, and overall development. The rest of the plants are looking healthy, and catching the problem early gives me a chance to address it before it affects the rest of the 10×10.

Finally, I remove the affected Mountain Dew from the garden rather than risk allowing the bud rot to spread. Not every grow goes perfectly, and documenting problems like this is part of showing the full process of growing in living soil from start to finish.
