Description
Episode 05: Week 5 Update, Identifying Plant Sex & Feeding in Living Soil
In this episode, we continue Season 3 of the 2×4 Grow Tent series by checking in at the end of week 5. This is the stage where plants begin reaching sexual maturity, and we start looking closely for early signs to determine whether they are male or female without flipping to flower.
I walk through how to properly inspect your plants for pre-flowers, showing what to look for at the nodes and explaining why patience is key before making any final decisions. You’ll see real examples of early development and how subtle these signs can be before full confirmation.
We also dive into a full top dressing and feeding routine to keep plants healthy in one-gallon containers. I demonstrate how to combine worm castings, Craft Blend, and additional inputs to provide both immediate and slow-release nutrition. This includes tips on maintaining plant health when watering schedules aren’t perfect, especially over weekends.
From there, I show how to properly water and integrate your top dress to avoid layering issues and ensure nutrients are available to the root zone. We also discuss the importance of wetting agents, microbial inputs, and maintaining proper moisture levels to support soil biology.
This episode is all about dialing in plant health during a critical transition stage, learning how to read early sex signs, and maintaining a balanced feeding strategy in living soil systems.
