Description

Episode 16: Week 16 Update, Clone Preparation, EarthBox Pruning & Preparing to Flip to Flower

In this episode of the BuildASoil 10×10 Series, Season 9 Episode 16, I continue documenting the recovery of the garden after the timer mishap and prepare everything for the official flip back into flower.

I begin with a full Week 16 update, explaining how the Blueberry Muffins have recovered after reveg, why taking clones is now a priority, and how the EarthBoxes and living soil beds are progressing as the garden gets ready to transition back into flower. I also discuss lessons learned from the timer issue, why keeping backup clones is so valuable, and how automated living soil systems make recovering from unexpected setbacks much easier.

Next, I tour the entire 10×10 garden, comparing the vigor and structure of each cultivar while inspecting feeder root development inside the EarthBoxes. I explain how different genetics are expressing themselves in vegetative growth, evaluate container size versus plant size, and discuss why EarthBox management becomes increasingly important before flowering begins.

From there, I prepare an aloe cloning solution, explain the natural rooting compounds found in horticultural aloe, and walk through my clone preparation process. I discuss rooting hormones, labeling methods, soaking times, and several tips that help improve cloning success before placing fresh cuttings into propagation.

I then take clones from each cultivar while pruning back the oversized EarthBox plants to better balance the canopy before flower. Along the way, I explain my approach to reducing plant size, selecting quality clone material, managing vigorous genetics, and preparing each cultivar for the upcoming stretch after the flip.

Finally, I review the completed pruning work, compare canopy structure after cleanup, evaluate the results of selective supercropping, and explain why the next step will be installing the trellis net before officially flipping the garden into flower.

By the end of this episode, you’ll better understand clone preparation, natural aloe rooting techniques, EarthBox management, canopy balancing, selective pruning, supercropping, and how I prepare a living soil garden for a successful transition into flower.
